In 253 daysHanuman Jayanti
The Chaitra Purnima birth of Bajrangbali.
Hanuman Jayanti 2027 falls on Tuesday 20 April, on the Chaitra Purnima — the full moon five days after Ram Navami, kept across North India as the birth of Hanuman. The day runs on his own disciplines: sunrise puja (the tradition holds he was born as the sun rose), the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand paths, sindoor and chola offered to the deity, boondi and besan laddoos as prasad, and the day's charity done quietly. Southern and some regional traditions keep their own Jayanti dates — stated plainly below. This guide covers the birth katha, the day's vidhi, the Chalisa-and-Sundarkand practice, the regional calendar, and why jyotish sends Mangal and Shani afflictions to Hanuman's door.

How Kundli.me helps
Hanuman is the classical refuge for Mangal and Shani afflictions — check your own Mangal dosha free, and what your chart actually asks for.
Mangal dosha checkThe birth of the wind's son
Anjana, an apsara born as a vanara by a rishi's word, worshipped Shiva for a son; Vayu, the wind, carried to her the blessed payasam of Dasharatha's putreshti yajna — the same offering that gave Ayodhya its four princes. So Hanuman is twice-connected at birth: Shiva's amsha by blessing, Rama's kin by the shared offering, and the wind's son by carriage. Born at sunrise on the Chaitra Purnima at Anjaneri, the infant leapt for the rising sun taking it for a fruit — the first of the strength-stories, and the one that ended with Indra's vajra, the jaw (hanu) that names him, and the devas' compounding boons.
The day, step by step
- 1
Before sunrise
Temples open dark and early — the janma aarti is sung as the sun rises, the tradition's own birth moment. Home worship follows the same order after the bath.
- 2
Sindoor and chola
The deity receives the chola — sindoor in jasmine oil — recalling the katha of Hanuman covering his body in sindoor for Rama's long life; devotees take a touch of it as tilak.
- 3
The paths
The Chalisa — once, eleven times, or a hundred-and-eight by vow — and the Sundarkand, his own kand of the Manas, sung solo or in the sabha style. Bajrang Baan where the family keeps it.
- 4
Prasad and daan
Boondi or besan laddoos, tulsi-dal in every offering; the day's daan goes quietly to those who serve with their body — the tradition reads Hanuman's seva in them.
The other Jayantis — regional calendars
- Telugu lands: the Jayanti concludes a 41-day deeksha on Vaishakha Krishna Dashami — weeks after the northern Purnima.
- Tamil tradition: Hanumath Jayanti in Margazhi (Dec–Jan), on the moolam nakshatra day near the amavasya.
- Karnataka: Hanumad Vrata on Margashirsha Shuddha Trayodashi.
- All are the same reverence on different calendars — follow your region's; this page's dated sections track the northern Chaitra Purnima.
Why Mangal and Shani go to Hanuman
Two remedy-lines meet at his temple. Tuesday — Mangal's day — is Hanuman's day: the graha of strength, courage and conflict answered by the tradition's embodiment of strength governed by devotion; manglik-dosha remedies classically include his worship. And Saturday belongs to him through the Shani katha: Hanuman freed Shani from Ravana's captivity, and the boon that followed — Shani troubles none who take Hanuman's name — is why sade-sati remedies run through the Chalisa. The honest jyotish first step, before any remedy: confirm the affliction exists. The Mangal-dosha check and the sade-sati calculator do exactly that, free, from your chart.
The Chalisa as a practice
Tulsidas's forty verses are the tradition's most-recited text for a reason the Jayanti makes visible: they are a complete Hanuman theology in pocket form — strength, service, learning, the crossing of the impossible — closed by the protection couplet. The Jayanti's vowed recitations (eleven, twenty-one, a hundred-and-eight) are the day's tapas; a single attentive Chalisa is its everyday form. Households that keep one practice from this page should keep this one.
The Purnima that closes Chaitra
This full moon closes the year's first month: the new samvat is a fortnight old, Navratri and Ram Navami are just behind, and the summer wedding wave is entering its strong weeks — April and May's engine tables carry the scored dates. Hanuman Jayanti stands at the turn like its deity at Rama's door: the year's guardian post, taken up before the busy season.
Frequently asked questions
When is Hanuman Jayanti in 2027?
In the northern tradition, Tuesday 20 April 2027 — the Chaitra Purnima. (That it falls on a Tuesday, Hanuman's own day, makes it a stronger observance this year.) Telugu, Tamil and Kannada traditions keep their own dates — see the regional section.
What time is the janma aarti?
At sunrise — the tradition's birth moment — which shifts by city. Check your city's sunrise on the live panchang; temples typically begin the path before first light.
Chalisa or Sundarkand — which should I read?
Both are the day's classics: the Chalisa for a vowed count, the Sundarkand for the full sitting. A household short on time keeps one attentive Chalisa; a sabha keeps the Sundarkand. Neither outranks sincerity.
Does Hanuman worship really help in sade sati?
It is the tradition's classical prescription, via the Shani-katha boon. The honest order: first confirm sade sati actually runs (the free calculator checks it from your Moon), then let the guru weigh the whole chart before prescribing — discipline and seva are the remedy's working parts.
Why sindoor on Hanuman?
From the katha: seeing Sita apply sindoor for Rama's long life, Hanuman covered his whole body in it — the whole body given to Rama's wellbeing. The chola repeats that totality; the tilak taken from it borrows a little of it.
Is Hanuman Jayanti a fasting day?
Many keep a day fast broken after the evening path; brahmacharya, and abstaining from salt in some traditions, accompany it. As always, the unwell keep symbol over suffering.
