What is the Panchang?
The panchang is the Vedic almanac's five limbs for a day: vara (weekday), tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (Moon's constellation), yoga and karana. Together they describe the quality of the day.
Is this panchang location-specific?
Yes — choose your city and we compute the day's panchang for that location from real astronomical positions.
What is Rahu Kaal and should I avoid it?
Rahu Kaal is a roughly 90-minute window each day (its timing depends on the weekday and your city's sunrise/sunset) that classical tradition treats as inauspicious for STARTING new work — signing deals, journeys, ceremonies. Work already in progress is not affected. Our calculator shows the exact window for your city, along with Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal.
What is Abhijit muhurat?
Abhijit is the middle 1/15th portion of the daytime — roughly 20–25 minutes around local solar noon — and is considered auspicious for starting almost any work when no specific muhurat has been chosen. By tradition it is not observed on Wednesdays; the calculator handles this automatically.
Can I see the panchang for a past or future date?
Yes — pick any date between 1900 and 2100 and any city, and the full panchang (tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, sunrise/sunset and the day's muhurat windows) is computed for exactly that day and place.
Which tithis are considered auspicious?
It depends on the work: Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami and Trayodashi are broadly favourable (siddha) tithis; Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi (rikta tithis) are avoided for new beginnings; Amavasya is reserved for ancestor rites. For an important event, the tithi is weighed together with vara, nakshatra and your own chart — which is what a muhurat consultation does.
