The kathas stack on this tithi like offerings: Sudama's handful of poha returned as a kingdom; Draupadi's akshaya patra granted — the vessel that never emptied; the Mahabharata's writing begun by Ganesha at Vyasa's dictation; the Treta Yuga held to open on it; Kubera appointed treasurer of the gods. The shared grammar is exact: what is given or begun on this Tritiya multiplies instead of depleting. India's biggest wedding day — and its fine print

As an abujh (swayam-siddha) muhurat, Akshaya Tritiya needs no panchang consultation for a wedding — which is why halls across the north and west are booked years out and mass-marriage events choose it. The fine print the tradition itself keeps: abujh settles the DAY's auspiciousness, not the match's — the kundli milan, the mangal-dosha check and the couple's dashas remain their own questions; and the practical layer (venue, pandit availability, the crowd premium) argues for candidate dates around it too. The gold custom, read honestly

Buying gold today is the custom's modern face — the older form is broader: bringing home any lasting wealth, from grain to land to the first entry in a new venture's books, so that it grows undiminishing. Read plainly: the day blesses the intention and the beginning; it does not price the metal. A family that buys one coin with clear purpose keeps the custom; one that stretches into debt for it misses the point — kharid is one form of the day, daan the older one. • Japa and path — today's count is held akshaya; the family mantra, however short, done attentively.

The kapats open — the yatra begins

In the Himalaya the day has a door of its own: the kapats of Yamunotri and Gangotri open on Akshaya Tritiya, beginning the Chardham yatra season (Kedarnath and Badrinath follow within days). In Puri, the building of the Rath Yatra chariots begins today, and Vrindavan's Banke Bihari gives the year's single charan-darshan.
