Pushya (पुष्य) is the eighth nakshatra of the zodiac, occupying 3°20′ to 16°40′ of Cancer (Karka) — the heart of the Moon's own sign. The name comes from pushti, "nourishment": Pushya is the nourisher, the mansion that feeds what it touches. In the sky it sits among the quiet stars of Cancer — Theta and Delta Cancri beside the soft glow of the Beehive cluster, pictured in older texts as a manger or feeding-trough. Pushya's presiding deity is Brihaspati — the guru of the gods, priest of the celestial court, lord of sacred speech and counsel. Where other deities fight or create, Brihaspati advises, blesses and teaches; under him Pushya becomes the nakshatra of the wise elder, the family priest, the teacher whose word steadies a whole community.
