Punarvasu (पुनर्वसु) is the seventh nakshatra of the zodiac, occupying 20°00′ Gemini to 3°20′ Cancer — one of the mansions that bridges two signs. The name joins punar, "again," with vasu, "light, goodness, dwelling": the return of the light. In the sky it is the twin stars Castor and Pollux, the two bright heads of the Gemini constellation, rising side by side like brothers walking home. Punarvasu's presiding deity is Aditi — "the boundless one," the vast mother of the twelve Adityas, the solar gods who include Vishnu, Indra and Mitra. Aditi is limitless space itself: the sky that cannot be cut, the mother who refuses no child, abundance that does not run out.
